Early Robust Design—Its Effect on Parameter and Tolerance Optimization

The development of complex products with high quality in dynamic markets requires appropriate robust design and tolerancing workflows supporting the entire product process. Despite large number methods tools available for designers tolerance engineers, there are hardly any consistent approaches that applicable throughout all stages. This is mainly due to break between primarily qualitative concept stage quantitative parameter activities subsequent Motivated by this, this paper bridges gap these two different views contrasting used terminology methods. Moreover, it studies effects early decisions a focus on Suh’s Axiomatic Design axioms later optimization. Since most can be ascribed axioms, allows reliable statements about specific benefits process considering variation first time. presented optimization nominal parameters their values shown means case study based ski bindings.
